Abercarn overcame the challenge of Blaina to notch up another bonus point league win despite being forced into some nail-biting defending in the closing minutes. For the majority of the first half Aber were camped in the Blaina half. After 10 minutes the home side lost a put in at a defensive scrum and inside half Guy Glastonbury set off on a jinking run to score the opening try of the game. Aber moved further ahead when winger Alex Meade raced down the touch-line and, with a defender hanging on his back managed to stretch over the line to add 5 points. The visitors' pack were in dominant form and continued to pressurise the Blaina line. From a line-out the pack formed a driving maul and hooker Aaron Davies grounded the ball for his first try of the season.

Abercarn were cruising at half-time with a 15 - 0 lead but the hosts had regrouped during the interval and came out firing on all cylinders. Full back Jason Evans kicked a simple penalty and straight from the restart his Blaina counterpart gathered the ball and evaded several desperate tackles before giving a scoring pass and the try was converted. Evans added another three points before the home side capitalised on a handling error and ran in for a simple try. The home side upped their game, Abercarns' indiscipline increased and the penalty count against them rose.

With the final whistle approaching Abercarn chose to ignore a simple kick to goal and opted for a line-out. The ball was gathered and the pack pounded away at Blainas' defences and captain Nathan Curtis crossed the whitewash to score the bonus point try and the final score was 26 - 14. Blaina had dug in determinedly to push Abercarn all the way and with better finishing they could have snatched victory for themselves.

The Man of the Match Award deservedly went to lock Matthew Brittan for his stirling work around the park. This Saturday Abercarn welcomes Trefil to the Welfare Ground.
