Rhys's hat-trick.

A hat-trick from scrum half Rhys Morgan inspired Abercarn to a convincing bonus point win over Llanhilleth as well as earning himself the Man of the Match Award. Abercarn's first points came from the boot of Jamie Baker when the visitors were penalised for attempted foul play. From a scrum, centre Owen Coomer ran strongly, passed to flanker Matthew Harper who linked well with Morgan who touched down in the corner. From the kick-off the home side ran the ball straight back to the visitor's line and Morgan crossed for his second. Lock Greg Baker was next to score when he emerged from the bottom of a driving maul before Morgan gained the bonus point with the last move of the first half and Abercarn led by 27 points to nil.

It took Abercarn just two minutes into the second half to score their next try when Harper galloped under the posts unopposed. The home side's pack was having to work hard at the set pieces and from a driving scrum, number 8 Gareth Peebles touched down as they crossed the whitewash. Llanhilleth enjoyed a good period and had Abercarn under pressure but were unable to break through the defences. Abercarn managed to turn the ball over and winger Andrew Fraser ran almost the length of the field to score under the posts and the final score was 48 points to nil.

This Saturday Abercarn travel to Newport HSOB, kick-off is at the earlier time of 1:30 pm.
