A cracking team performance.

Abercarn's impressive start to the season continued when they comfortably beat a committed Chepstow side by 40 points to 5. Six tries were scored by the home side, three by the backs and three by the forwards, which illustrates what was a good all round team performance. Alex Manning, playing on the wing was the first to score when he crossed the whitewash in the corner. The home side's pack was again in powerful form and were able to dominate the visitors' pack at scrum time. Abercarn launched a mighty rolling maul which resulted in scrum-half Rhys Morgan emerging from the bottom to claim his third try of the season. Chepstow then enjoyed a good period where they launched attack after attack but were unable to crack a committed Abercarn defence. Against the run of play, center Gareth Williams broke free and scored an excellent try under the posts. The blustery wind caused problems for both sides and a scrappy first half ended with the home side leading by 19 points to nil.

Early into the second half Abercarn moved further ahead when from the back of a driving scrum, number eight Gareth Peebles touched down to earn a try bonus point. He was involved in the next score when again from a scrum he gave a try scoring pass to hooker Aaron Davies. Abercarn's sixth try came when they were camped on the visitor's line and Captain Nathan Curtis picked up the ball and dove over the defenders. Chepstow had the final say in the match when from a penalty they ran the ball to score an unconverted try.

This was a good committed performance by Abercarn and they will be looking forward to travelling to Monmouth this Saturday.
