A good away win.

Abercarn travelled to Usk and as expected had to dig deep to be able to continue their unbeaten league run. From the off, the home side were quickly out of the blocks and were soon rewarded with a penalty. Both sides were fairly evenly matched and play swung from end to end. From an attacking line-out, the ball was quickly passed to centre Owen Coomer who burst through several tackles to score his ninth try of the season and full-back Josh Steer duly added the two points. The Usk back row were very effective and just on half-time the home side kicked their second penalty and Abercarn held a slender 7 points to 6 lead.

There was an exchange of penalties early in the second half and it was nip and tuck between both sides as the game swung one way and then the other. The stalemate was broken when Steer launched a speculative high up and under that didn't seem to be going anywhere. However he followed it up, was rewarded with a kindly bounce and finding no defenders in his way was able to score a try. He moved Abercarn further ahead with a well struck drop-goal before added the conversion to winger Andrew Fraser's well worked try. Usk never gave up and they had the final word with a converted try with the last move of the game to take the final score to 16 points to 27.

Back at the clubhouse there were several candidates for Man of the Match, which went to Josh Steer who just pipped Aaron Davies and Matthew Harper. This Wednesday evening Abercarn travel to Beaufort for a 7:00 pm kick -off before welcoming Crumlin on Saturday for a game to be played at Waunfawr Park, Crosskeys.
