First double of the season.

Abercarn completed their first league double of the season with a comprehensive victory over visitors Blaina winning by 34 points to fourteen. The home side's pack was again in good form and had the edge in set pieces throughout the game. Abercarn's first try came following a good forward drive and scrum-half Colin Manning touched down with outside-half Josh Steer adding the two points. Playing his first game for Abercarn, winger Alistair Fraser was having an impressive debut and following a good run he gave a try scoring pass to Manning who crossed the line in the corner for his second try of the game. Blaina were having a torrid time in the scrums and having to defend for long periods but finally got on the scoreboard when they scored an excellent converted try from almost their first excursion into Abercarn's half. Steer was successful with a penalty before Blaina scored their second try from an interception and at half-time the score was 15 - 14 to the home side.

The half time talk obviously had an effect as the second half belonged to Abercarn. From an attacking scrum, number eight, and man of the match, Greg Baker crashed over the whitewash for the bonus point try. Almost straight from the kick-off Abercarn ran the ball from the half way line and sub James Gougerty scored Abercarn's fifth try. The final score went to another sub, Guy Glastonbury, who, following one of his trademark jinking runs managed to squeeze into the corner for his second of the season - his first being in the away fixture against Blaina.

This was an excellent team performance with several players making the most of their chances with a number of regulars absent. This Saturday Abercarn travel to play Trefil on their Mutton Tump.
