An exhibition match.

Abercarn travelled to Rogerstone and produced some of their best rugby of the season in scoring six tries and winning by 49 points to 5. Outside-half Josh Steer obviously had his kicking boots on and had the scoreboard moving when he first kicked a penalty before sharply dropping a goal when the pack won the ball against the head. From an attacking line-out, lock Mark Curtis realised that the defenders had not engaged so he quickly stepped backwards and reached over the line to score his second try of the season. Steer added the two points before kicking another penalty and, with half time approaching converted an excellent try by full back Jason Evans to take the score to 23 points to nil.

Despite being under the cosh throughout the first half, Rogerstone continued to play positively and were rewarded with a try in the corner soon after the restart. Jason Evans scored his second try of the game when he collected a high ball in his own half and weaved through many defenders to touch down. Abercarn's bonus point came when sub Kris Kinsey broke from the back of an attacking scrum to cross the whitewash. Centre Ben Farley was next to score before, with time running out, Evans passed the ball to substitute winger Aled Brown who outpaced the defenders to score a try.

All credit must go to Rogerstone who, despite being on the back foot for much of the match did not give in. With the league won the whole Abercarn side produced a fine exhibition of scrummaging and kicking, the only negatives being the injuries to Jamie Iggo and Ben Blakemore. This Wednesday Abercarn travel to Bettws before meeting Hafodyrynys on Saturday.
