Good all round performance

Despite their league position Bettws contributed positively to the game, something that was lacking in the last match at the Welfare and Abercarn did not have it all their own way in the early exchanges. Ultimately Bettws found it difficult to cope with Abercarn's pack and good defensive work nullified their attacks.

Josh Steer got the scoreboard moving with a well struck penalty before, after winning a scrum against the head, winger Andrew Fraser ran from the half-way line to score the first of Abercarn's seven tries. Bettws kicked their own penalty when an Abercarn forward was yellow carded. Despite being reduced to fourteen men the home side's pack scored a pushover try, number eight Gareth Peebles touching down. Bettws then scored when they intercepted a wayward pass to run under the posts. Play became a bit scrappy before Gethin Patterson, playing on the wing, made an excellent break to score and Steer's conversion gave a half time lead of 23 points to 10.

Prop Neil Hopkins scored his first try of the season when he drove over the line before Peebles got his pair following another scrum push over. For the last quarter passive scrums were introduced but the points continued to flow when full back Jason Evans ran strongly to score two tries as well. Bettws had the last word when they scored with the last play of the game and the final score was 47 - 15.
