Hard fought win.

Tredegar Ironsides gave Abercarn their hardest game of the season before succumbing to a 17 points to 3 defeat. In good conditions and with a lovely pitch any hopes of a flowing game of rugby didn't occur and the game became a hard fought, forward dominated encounter. The hosts were clearly up for this encounter and pressurised the visitors from the off, they were quicker to breakdowns and for the first quarter of an hour Abercarn could not get out their own half. When they finally did, they quickly gained a penalty and full-back Jason Evans added the three points. With both packs going at it hammer and tongs, a flurry of penalties followed and Evans' boot kept Abercarn in the lead. Just before half-time, things boiled over and both sides were reduced to fourteen men.

The second half produced more of the same with play going from one end to the other and it began to look as if neither side would be able to score a try. Finally, the Abercarn side produced a period of great support play and close inter-passing enable centre Owen Coomer to burst through the defences and score what was to be the only try of the game. The hosts battered the Abercarn line in the closing stages but stout defending meant they were unable to break through. Back at the Clubhouse the Man of the Match Award went to Matthew Harper.

This was Abercarn's hardest game of the season and good preparation for when they receive Division Three East A side, New Tredegar this Friday evening in the first round of the Ben Francis Cup.
