Caerleon up next!

Abercarn produced a dogged display against Cefn Coed to progress into the next round of the SWALEC Bowl. The weather was bright and breezy with a heavy Black Patch pitch underfoot. From the off the home side took the game to the visitors and were camped in their half for the first twenty minutes. Despite the relentless pressure the visitors were excellent in defense and knocked back their much bigger opponents. The Cefn team gave away a succession of penalties and from an attacking line-out, man of the match, lock Mark Curtis scored the first try of the game. Full back, Jason Evans kicked the conversion and following an exchange of penalties Abercarn led at half-time by 10 points to three.

The second half saw a lot of endeavour but little in the way of exciting rugby for the spectators. The home side were successful with a penalty kick to put pressure on Abercarn's slim lead. However, they made a hash of a defensive line-out and flanker Matt Harper pounced on the loose ball and Evans added the two points to seal the win. Both Glastonbury brothers, Owen and Guy, had a good game in both attack and defense and it was good to see Karl Kinsey back on the pitch following his injury.

This Saturday Abercarn return to league action when they travel to Bettws, Newport.
