Uncontested scrums - again!

Abercarn continued their undefeated run in the League with a comfortable win over visitors Brynithel, ultimately winning by 36 points to 5. Disappointingly the game started with uncontested scrums from the off as the visitors did not have any props. The game started at a frenetic pace with 24 points being put on the board in the first fifteen minutes. Man of the Match, centre Jack Davies was first to score when he ran almost from the half-way line, jinking around several defenders and crashed over the line. Brynithel hit back when they caught Abercarn napping to score a crafty try in the corner. The swirling wind was causing problems for the kickers but outside-half Josh Steer easily converted his own try when he pounced on a loose ball to cross the whitewash. Minutes later Davies scored his second try of the game in similar fashion and with the last play of the first half Steer added a penalty and took the score to 22 points to 5.

The second-half began with Brynithel looking the livelier and they took the game to Abercarn. Along with uncontested scrums the game wasn't much of a spectacle for the spectators with both sides making mistakes; too much whistle and the match became a stop start affair. It was twenty minutes into the second half before Abercarn got their bonus point when, following a simple move off the training ground, Davies burst through the defenders to score his hat-trick. The home side's final try came when Joe Coughlin linked up well with his wing partner, Andrew Fraser, to race away and Steer duly converted to take his tally for the game to 18 Points.

This Wednesday evening Abercarn are due to play Bettws at the Welfare Ground, kick-off 7:15 pm before they travel to Usk on Saturday.
