Abercarn returned to the top of the table with a bonus point win over Trefil by 50 points to 14, scoring eight tries in the process. The game was played under clear blue skies but with a strong wind that made kicking and throw-ins very difficult. The hosts had the advantage of the considerable slope in the first half and were soon on the scoreboard with a successful penalty kick when an Abercarn player strayed offside. Abercarn soon hit back when following a three quarter move, winger Guy Glastonbury scored their first try of the game. He was instrumental in their second try when he linked with lock Greg Simmonds who burst through several tackles, centre Rhys Davies crossed the whitewash and outside-half Josh Steer added the two points. The home side used the wind wisely to keep Abercarn pinned back and converted two penalty kicks. Just on half time, following a line-out on the half way line, Simmonds emerged with the ball and passed to winger Andrew Frazier who scored his first try of the game and the conversion extended Abercarn's lead to 17 points to 9.

Just minutes into the second half, Josh Steer broke from the back of a scrum and despite being tackled managed to stretch forward and ground the ball. Trefil then showed the visitors how to play up the slope when from rolling maul they scored a converted try. Centre Owen Coomer was next on the  scoreboard when he broke several tackles to score under the posts. Frazier scored his second try when he collected a kick ahead before he benefited from a three quarter break for his third. With the hosts visibly wilting, he scored his fourth when he broke from his own line to weave around several defenders and Steer was successful with the conversion to extend his total for the game to 15 points. After the game Andrew Frazier was named as man of the match.

This Thursday evening Abercarn are taking on Nantyglo in the plate competition of the Ben Francis Cup. The game is due to be played at Blaina rugby ground and kick-off is at 7:15.
