Another bonus points win!

Abercarn secured their fifth consecutive win of the season comprehensively beating Trefil by 34 points to seven. In all six tries were scored earning the team yet another bonus point and keeping them top of the table. They took the game to the visitors from the outset and were rewarded with a try after just five minutes. From an attacking scrum they drove forward and back rower Gareth Peebles touched down. Minutes later, following a move straight from the training ground, the ball was passed across the three quarters and winger Joe Coughlin scored under the posts. Fullback Jason Evans duly added the two points.

Belying their lowly position in the league Trefil were making life difficult for Abercarn and their pack did not take a backwards step. After the bright start the game became a scrappy affair with both sides guilty of poor handling. Abercarn pulled further ahead when winger Sean Higgins scored an unconverted try and at halftime the score was 17 - 0. Twenty minutes into the second half, lock Matthew Brittan was at the back of a maul and scored a try as the pack crossed the whitewash. Trefil struck back immediately from the restart, put together a flowing move and scored an excellent converted try under the posts. As the visitors began to tire Abercarn began to pick up the pace and spreading the ball wide, centre Owen Coomer breezed through the defence and Evans was successful with the conversation. With the clock running down, back rower Jamie Iggo gathered a high pass to score the final try of the game.

Back at the Clubhouse there were several names put forward for the Man of the Match Award and scrum half Colin Manning received the most votes. This Saturday Abercarn travel to play Tref Y Clawdd in the next round of the SWALEC Cup.
